Short Stories for Weeks 1-2.

As part of IB lit, students will be reading a great deal of literature outside class. Generally speaking, the expectation will be that students complete a reading after school and return the next day ready to discuss that reading.

To facilitate this process, I am posting links and downloadable PDFs of all of the short stories we will be covering in our first several weeks of class. I recommend students print off the documents and annotate them as they read, bringing in their marked copies to class the next day.

John Updike’s “A&P.”

Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher.”

Kate Chopin’s “The Storm.”

Ernest Hemingway’s “A Clean, Well-Lighted Place.”

James Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues.”

Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use.”

Jhumpa Lahiri’s “Interpreter of Maladies.”

Kurt Vonnegut’s “Harrison Bergeron.”

Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery.”
